As an Application Engineer (Backend), you’ll contribute to building the systems that power checkout, payments, and integrations — all at massive scale. This role is ideal for engineers who are early in their careers but eager to take on real-world challenges, learn from experienced mentors, and make an immediate impact. You’ll get hands-on experience building APIs, working with payment gateways, and solving live merchant integration use cases — all while learning the best practices of scalable, production-grade systems.
What You’ll Own
- Backend Development – Build and maintain backend modules using Node.js and Express, ensuring clean and efficient architecture
- API Development – Develop and test REST APIs and small integrations that connect GoKwik’s systems with merchants and partners
- Merchant Integrations – Work on live merchant integrations across major GoKwik products such as checkout, payments, and RTO reduction
- Third-Party APIs – Implement and maintain APIs for external services like payment gateways and banks, ensuring smooth functionality and timely updates
- Collaboration with Product – Understand API specifications from payment partners and work closely with Product Managers and Banking Solutions teams for clarifications and enhancements
- Code Quality & Learning – Write clean, reusable, and well-documented code, debug, test, and review code under guidance from senior engineers
- System Understanding – Learn internal systems, databases, and deployment workflows while contributing to real product features from day one
Who You Are
- Hands-on understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript and REST API fundamentals
- Familiarity with MongoDB or PostgreSQL, and version control using Git
- Basic knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and environment setup
- Curiosity to learn, adaptability, and a growth mindset
- Strong discipline in writing maintainable, well-tested code
- Basic understanding of JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3 for debugging
- Exposure to at least one production-grade application (academic or professional)
- Collaborative team player comfortable working from the office
- Thinks AI-first and looks for ways to make systems smarter, faster, and more efficient
